Conference Success!
-- Posted by Alysia on Saturday, July 16th 2005 Hi everyone, Wow, thank you to all the delegates, steering committee, speakers, sponsors, chaperones, technical support, and my family for making YC3 a huge success. I am so proud and thrilled to look back over the conference, you all made it truly amazing. I am off for a bit of a break - and so I can be reached after August 10th as normal...until then, I'm afraid I won't be able to be in contact. I look forward to touching base next month. Thank you! a huge success! In December 2002, then aged 15 years old, Alysia Garmulewicz returned from a student expedition studying climate change in Antarctica. Incredibly moved by her experience, her goal upon returning was to inspire other youth, and to inform them how our actions at home impact around the globe. Drawing together a dedicated team to support her, she formed the Changing Climates Environmental Society, and launched an ambitious plan to host the 2005 Youth Climate Change Conference - YC3 - in July 2005. After fund-raising over $120,000 and gaining the generous support of sponsors such as Bell Canada, she convinced 20 leading experts in the field of climate change, politics, and youth leadership, to donate their time and energy to the conference. The result: over 90 youth from across Canada, plus 1 delegate from Scotland, gathered in Victoria, BC, to be inspired, informed and motivated to take positive action on climate change. After 4 days of lively discussion and debate, along with a lot of fun, delegates left with individual and collective action plans to make positive changes in the world they will inherit.
